Reduced Installation Time in Florida
RCR-12® | Mining Application/Erosion Control
Project Objectives Using Reinforced Concrete Roll®
PROJECT OVERVIEW
At Mosaic’s phosphate mine in Fort Meade, Florida, large-diameter casing pipe was installed across multiple slope areas. ITL Reinforced Concrete Roll® (RCR-12) was used as an underlayment to provide erosion protection, and long-term durability in challenging soft, sandy saturated subgrade conditions.
PROJECT GOAL
- Durable slope conveyance system capable of handling phosphate mine water flows.
- Prevent erosion and stabilize soils beneath large-diameter casing pipe.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
- Fast, efficient installation with reduced labor compared to other hard armor systems.
- Durable, adaptable solution for steep slopes under the mine water flows.
- Cost Savings! Reducing the time of installation reduces labor costs and long term maintenance.
High Performance, Rapid Installation
ITL RCR-12® FAST SAVE FOR SLOPE PROTECTION
Installation Process and Field Adaptability
Our local distributor R.H. Moore & Associates, Inc, supplied the ITL RCR to the contractor, who had reviewed various erosion control options. After assessing site conditions and installation requirements, ITL RCR-12 was selected as the most effective solution They shifted to ITL RCR after evaluating site conditions and installation needs. Crews were able to deploy RCR-12 directly with an excavator, unrolling and placing each section quickly and efficiently. The roll format simplified handling and required less labor compared to other hard armor systems, while still delivering the strength and stability required for a steep, active mining slope. Overlaps and anchoring were completed with straightforward methods familiar to heavy equipment operators, avoiding the need for specialized training or complex tools.
Performance For Mining Conditions
Phosphate mining environments often present difficult subgrades, including sandy soils and pockets of soft, saturated soils. The RCR-12 was selected to provide immediate erosion control while supporting the weight of large-diameter casing pipe used for water conveyance. Once hydrated and secured, the RCR created a durable, reinforced surface that resists erosion and maintains integrity under sustained water flows. The long-term performance reduces maintenance requirements and offers a reliable alternative to less robust erosion control products in similar high-demand applications.
