Erosion Control/Slope Protection

ITL Reinforced Concrete Roll® for Erosion Control/Slope Protection

Where conventional concrete is cost-prohibitive, ITL Reinforced Concrete Roll® provides a flexible solution that exceeds performance expectations and longevity compared to concrete erosion control options.

With proper anchorage, ITL RCR® has the strength and pliablity for extreme slope conditions. ITL RCR® can withstand very high volumes of rain or snow melt without damaging the product.  ITL RCR® can also be used for underpasses where traditional concrete is used to prevent erosion and sloughing of sloped soils as well as a bioswale for high-volume stormwater runoff.

For erosion-prone areas around lakes and bodies of salt water, ITL RCR®  can be hydrated with fresh water as well as salt water.

The speed of installation for ITL RCR® is significantly faster compared to traditional concrete, and with its 30-year pro-rated manufacturer warranty, it doesn’t require replacement on a regular basis like other erosion control products.

Erosion Control

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The non-woven geotextile that holds the cement in place will eventually degrade under constant UV exposure, but the concrete will last for many years. We offer a 30-year pro-rated warranty.

Small hairline cracks will form but they can’t be seen because of the fibers covering the concrete. ITL RCR®  will not develop large cracks because the fibers keep the concrete from separating.

In general, no. In some cases, if the ITL RCR® cracks there is a chance vegetation can grow through in time.

ITL RCR®  can go on virtually any slope, almost vertical. The anchoring at the top will be designed based on the slope and subgrade under the ITL RCR®. This is part of the design process and will require more details. Please call us to discuss.

Most water applications have little to no effect on ITL RCR®.

Channel Lining/Irrigation Canals

ITL Reinforced Concrete Roll® for Channel Lining/Irrigation Canals

ITL Reinforced Concrete Roll®  is making channel lining and repairs far less intensive than conventional cement repairs. After rolling out, securing, and then hydrating, ITL RCR®  can be used within hours.

ITL Reinforced Concrete Roll®  in either 7mm or 12mm thickness provides a reliable solution for most irrigation canal lining and channel lining projects, particularly with short deadlines and dipping temperatures. It provides unparalleled speed of installation and can be deployed through water. No need for rebar, forms, or finishing. Simply roll it out the material following our installation instructions, hydrate, and walk away. It’s that easy.

Our laboratory testing shows that very high volumes of water can run over the ITL RCR®  without scouring the base or sides of the canal. The option of building in rapids to reduce the flow is another option, as ITL RCR® is a pliable and flexible product prior to hydration. Cutting and fitting ITL RCR®  around bends or penetrations within the canal is easily accomplished with minimal equipment and personnel.

Most canals have limited space for deployment which is another reason to choose ITL RCR®. The rolls can be stockpiled in a central location and deployed with a front-end loader, track hoe, or all-terrain forklift.

Channels/Canals

Frequently Asked Questions

Depends. Once ITL RCR®  is in place and hydrated, the hardened surface will contour the subgrade. You can leave existing concrete in place with larger cracks. Larger voids greater than approximately 6 inches round/square should be filled with sand or soil of some sort to bridge the gap. We do suggest vegetation be removed and larger rocks bigger than one inch be removed to provide a smoother finished surface.

Yes, ITL RCR®  is very moldable and you can easily add rapids to modify the flow.

ITL RCR®  can easily be cut and fitted to create pie shaped pieces to smoothly transition around bends and curves.

Using stainless steel flat bar and stainless-steel anchor bolts every 6 inches, you can easily achieve a leak tight seal to existing concrete gates or pipe penetration aprons. If your canal is soil based, using a small trench also works very well. We can cut and fit smaller pieces around any penetration to create a tight seal to the penetration and main irrigation canal. ITL RCR®  is a perfect application for overflow swales.

We can figure out the best method when attaching ITL RCR®  to existing concrete, plastic liners, bituminous liners, soils, etc.

Containment Ponds

ITL Reinforced Concrete Roll® for Containment Ponds

For ponds that take a lot of surface abuse from animals and equipment, ITL Reinforced Concrete Roll®  is designed to handle traffic while extending the life of the geomembrane liner below.  ITL RCR®   is also durable enough for heavy equipment to scrape the pond bottom of sludge or sediment without damage.  Overflow swales connecting multiple ponds will prevent erosion of the soil and allow traffic to drive over the swale.

ITL RCR®  is perfect for splash pad applications. Where the sharp metal end of an intake water hose would normally puncture a liner,  ITL RCR®  provides a concrete armor to protect the liner. Unroll directly onto the liner with no additional felt protection. Simply hydrate, and 24 hours later, you can begin using the splash pad.

For remote locations, installation of ITL RCR®  only requires one equipment operator, one piece of equipment to safely lift 4,500 pounds (including the spreader bar), and three general laborers to deploy and install, thereby replacing the need for cement trucks required for traditional concrete pours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Some preparation is required for a pond liner application. We have a standard subgrade preparation manual for your reference. Once ITL Reinforced Concrete Roll®  is in place and hydrated, the hardened surface will contour the subgrade.

ITL RCR®  can easily be cut and fitted to smoothly transition around corners.

ITL RCR®  attaches to pipe penetrations in a very similar manner as normal geomembranes. Using stainless steel flat bar and stainless-steel anchor bolts every 6 inches, you can easily achieve a tight seal to concrete aprons. A typical anchor trench is used to hold ITL RCR®  in place.

Contact us to discuss the best method.

No. There will be some very minor seepage, not leakage. The difference is that it’s a very slow process and the result does not erode the underlying subgrade. If you are storing hazardous chemicals or other product that you don’t want to contaminate the soils below, we recommend the purchase of a liner from us which would be placed below the ITL RCR® . This is a very simple process. Please call us to discuss further.

Two different thicknesses:

ITL Reinforced Concrete Roll® is available in two thicknesses of 7mm, (ITL RCR-7®) and 12mm (ITL RCR-12®).

This was the right alternative to traditional construction materials in such a remote and environmentally sensitive habitat. The mat simply unrolled on the surface and adhered to the gabion blanket and baskets. It was thin, but solid and durable material, which would not degrade in the process of time. It was also cost-effective, quick, and easy to use, which easily saved us 60% of our time, standard equipment, and was a fraction of the cost of traditional cast-in-place concrete.
