No. The non-woven geotextile that holds the cement in place will eventually degrade under constant UV exposure, but the concrete will last for many years. We offer a 30-year pro-rated warranty.
RCR® for Water Management,
Erosion Protection,
Containment, and More
Inland Tarp & Liner’s Reinforced Concrete Roll® (RCR®) is a versatile geosynthetic cementitious composite mat (GCCM) product with multiple applications for mining and mineral processing operations. After being unrolled, RCR® is anchored and hydrated. Installation saves cost and time when compared to traditional concrete pours, and once cured, RCR® is set as a durable, long-term surface.
RCR® can be installed for
these and other uses:
Mining Operations
Water management
Erosion protection
Containment
Infrastructure repair
Mineral Processing
Channels and ditch lining
Pipe underlayment
Secondary containment
Slope erosion protection
For Mining Operations
There are multiple use cases for Reinforced Concrete Roll® in the mining industry.
Erosion Protection
RCR® can guard surfaces against rain, moving water, and runoff scour. Whether used as a ditch or channel liner, on basin slopes or embankments, under piping, or in other ways, RCR® is a durable, cementitious erosion protection solution. According to our laboratory testing, RCR® can handle high levels of water velocity and shear without measurable soil loss.
Containment
Reinforced Concrete Roll® can be applied for both freshwater and mining waste containment. Uses for freshwater containment include lining ponds, holding basins, dams, and berms.
RCR® is a sturdy and low-permeability product, and in many cases can act as the containment lining, providing armor and erosion protection. For hazardous material containment that requires complete seepage control, RCR® can work alongside a geomembrane lining, providing protection for the liner and against erosion.
Waste containment uses of RCR® include confining mining process fluids, drainage, and tailings. To help prevent water and oxygen from contacting contained waste, RCR® can be used to cap ponds or impoundments.
Infrastructure Repair
As a cementitious product that unrolls, RCR® can be installed on existing concrete to provide stabilization at a lower cost than employing a traditional concrete-pour approach.
For mining infrastructure repair, RCR® can be used for resurfacing ditches, spillways, outfalls, culverts, channel embankments, and for repairing containment structures and storage tank bases.
For Mineral Processing
In addition to uses for mining operations, RCR® can be installed for mineral processing applications.
Slope Erosion Protection
For mining and mineral processing operations, RCR® provides a sturdy and versatile slope erosion solution. RCR® can be installed on slopes that run gradually or at a steep angle, providing armoring that is resistant to ultraviolet rays, fire, cold temperatures, and adverse weather conditions.
Why RCR® for Mining and
Mineral Processing
Ease of installation, durability, and water and chemical resistance are all reasons for choosing RCR® for mining and mineral processing jobs.
Ease of Installation
RCR® installation does not require cement trucks, mixing, use of forms, or rebar. The product unrolls from a central beam and can be installed with less time and money than with conventional cement pour installations.
Water and Chemical Resistance
RCR® has high resistance to water and many chemicals. Please contact our team for information on RCR® applications.
About Reinforced Concrete Roll®
A cementitious composite product, RCR® has a top geotextile layer, a center layer of dry concrete powder, and a bottom geotextile layer.
There is a 7mm thick RCR® product (RCR-7®) and a 12 mm thick RCR® product (RCR-12®). Both are offered in a standard roll size of 5m wide x 20m long, which is about 16 ft. 4 in. x 65 ft. 7 in. Ask our team about custom sizes.
A standard roll of RCR-7® weighs 1,700 lbs., and a standard roll of RCR-12® weighs 2,800 lbs.
Mining Application/Erosion
Control Case Study
RCR® as a Pipe Underlayment at a Florida Phosphate Mine
Overview
RCR-12® was used for erosion protection under large-diameter casing pipe installed on sloped areas of a phosphate mine.
Project Goal
Implement a slope conveyance system to handle phosphate mine water flows and prevent soil erosion under large-diameter casing pipe.
Why RCR® for the Job
Various erosion control options were considered for this job. After assessment of the site’s conditions and requirements for installation, RCR-12® was selected.
Aspects of the Installation
Workers deployed RCR-12® with an excavator. The installation required product overlaps and anchoring, which were conducted without heavy equipment operators, specialized training, or complex tools. Installation occurred on soft, sandy subgrade.
Completion
The RCR-12® underlayment was successfully installed, with the unrolling format requiring less labor than would have been required with other installation approaches.
Additional Case Studies
RCR-7® was used as a tailings pond liner at an Arizona mine site. Select the link below for the case study.
Erosion Control Q&A
Yes. Hairline cracks, which cannot be seen due to fibers covering the concrete, will occur. RCR® will not develop large cracks because the fibers keep the concrete from separating.
On what slopes can RCR® be applied?
RCR® can be applied on virtually any slope, even for almost vertical installation. The top anchoring can be designed based on the slope and subgrade. Consult with our team concerning specific slope applications.
Yes. RCR® has a 30-year pro-rated warranty.
