No. The non-woven geotextile that holds the cement in place will eventually degrade under constant UV exposure, but the concrete will last for many years. We offer a 30-year pro-rated warranty.
Unrolled Concrete for Slope
and Erosion Applications
In cases where conventional concrete is cost-prohibitive for slope or erosion protection, ITL Reinforced Concrete Roll® (RCR®) provides a geosynthetic cementitious composite mat (GCCM) as a sturdy, flexible, and more cost-effective solution.
This composite concrete product unrolls for efficient installation and provides slope and erosion protection with
long-term durability.
Product Performance
A secure and high-strength product, RCR® can withstand very high volumes of rain or snowmelt without becoming damaged.
With proper anchoring, RCR® has the strength and pliability to provide erosion protection for extreme slope conditions.
Efficient Installation
Compared to traditional concrete installations, RCR® can be installed significantly faster. After unrolling the GCCM according to installation instructions, hydrate the material and allow time for the concrete to cure. Minimal equipment is required.
Long-term Stability
and Warranty
RCR® doesn’t require regular replacement like other erosion-control products and has a 30-year pro-rated manufacturer warranty.
Reduce Carbon Footprint
RCR® is more eco-friendly than conventional concrete erosion control methods such as traditional concrete, shotcrete, grout blankets, and rip rap.
Slope Stabilization Case Study
Long-term Slope Protection Solution in South Texas
Overview
RCR-12® was installed as an armoring solution for the perimeter of a chemical containment facility.
Project Goal
Provide durable slope stabilization for an eroding perimeter without restricting secured access to the facility.
Why RCR® for the Job
RCR-12® provided a cost-effective, easily customizable solution. Its capacity to conform to the slope’s natural contour upon hydration eliminated the need for complex processes such as rebar tying or shotcrete application.
Aspects of the Installation
The installation involved multiple challenges, such as heavy rains causing slippery work surfaces, numerous pipe penetrations, an existing chain-link fence, and the presence of a drainage ditch.
The product’s efficient deployment streamlined the process. Around 10,000 ft2 was installed daily with minimal prep work.
Completion
The project was completed in 13 days.
Additional Case Studies
Check out these three case studies, each demonstrating RCR®’s use in protecting against erosion.
Underpasses where traditional concrete is used to prevent erosion and sloughing of sloped soils
Bioswales, for high-volume stormwater runoff
Erosion-prone areas around lakes and bodies of salt water (Note: RCR® can be hydrated with fresh water as well as salt water.)
Slope Stabilization

Erosion Control Q&A
Yes. Hairline cracks, which cannot be seen due to fibers covering the concrete, will occur. RCR® will not develop large cracks because the fibers keep the concrete from separating.
On what slopes can RCR® be applied?
RCR® can be applied on virtually any slope, even for almost vertical installation. The top anchoring can be designed based on the slope and subgrade. Consult with our team concerning specific slope applications.
Yes. RCR® has a 30-year pro-rated warranty.
